Our primary commitment to the community is to keep the doors open and to provide a safe and comfortable cinema house for the continued enjoyment and social networking opportunities that it provides. Sadly, from a financial standpoint this is oftentimes all we can do. Still we've been able in the past few years to invest in a variety of renovations, including new seats, a surround sound system, acoustical insulation, new heating system, upgraded electrical system, and house lighting. There remains innumerable projects on the wish list, each of which will improve the beauty, atmosphere, historical value, and financial sustainability of the theatre.
Each time you attend a movie at the theatre you are helping in this endeavor. Sharing this web site or attending the periodic events that are held at the theatre helps a great deal too. We appreciate the support and encouragement that so many individuals have contributed over the years and those who continue to do so.
If you feel as we do, that the theatre represents much more to the community than just a "place to see movies", we invite you to become an active participant in helping to sustain and restore it. You can make a cash contribution, help to promote fundraising events, or contribute your special talents and professional expertise when projects that could use them are underway.
We will keep you abreast of these various projects via this page, and we hope you'll not only check back often, but share what you find here with your friends and neighbors. Thanks
-Chris and Brigette Brannan
Current Project:

This project has now been underway since last year and is progressing well. Behind the facade the theatre has a pitched roof. As it turns out, the axis of the theatre's roof beam is only a few degrees off due east, making the sloped south facing roof pre-maximized for solar input. After the requisite inquiries as to cost and feasability, we found that in order to install solar panels on the roof it would be necessary to first install a newly shingled roof over the old tin roof that existed. As of early 2010 the required portion of the roof (the south side) has been finished and the beginning installations of what is should be able to provide the theatre with not only all of its on-site power but provide surplus electricity is underway.

Future Projects:
Here's a sampling of a few of the major projects on our list (in no particular order)...
Fabric Covering For the Auditorium Walls
The acoustic insulation that has previously been installed on the walls of the auditorium has worked wonders to properly dampen resonant sound waves, and the theatre's sound system probably never sounded better. To finish the job and provide for a more beautiful interior that helps accent the new lighting fixtures, the insulation will need to be covered with fabric material.
Permanent Aisle Carpeting
Theatres take a lot of wear and tear from constant foot traffic. Premium heavy duty aisle carpeting is the next step in the beautification of the auditorium, the color and pattern of which has not been determined and should be chosen to match and accent the new wall covering when its finally installed.
Marquee and Sign Painting
This phase naturally will have to wait until the neon restoration project is initiated (see below). It will require stripping the old paint away, making the necessary repairs, and most likely applying weather protection and miscellaneous fixes, before new paint is applied.
Neon Restoration
The neon lettering that graces the marquee and "Theatre" sign is simply stunning when lit. Nothing says "Cinema" like a brightly lit marquee and sign. Many townsfolk remember the days when they still worked.
Through storms, age, and accidents (like the errant basketball that finally took out "GARBERVILLE" on the north side of the marquee) they've become broken, cracked, or lost. Does anything still work? Yes, perhaps, but its too dangerous to attempt considering the current condition of the system.
We leave the neon off for this reason. The photoshop "restoration"
that you see at the top of these web pages is an idea of how the neon might look when fully restored. Nice huh? Can it be done? Sure. For how much? We don't know as of yet, but we'll be looking into it, and we'll keep you posted.

Donations
Thanks for taking an active interest in the theatre. If you'd like to make a contribution it's easy, and we very much thank you for your support. We plan to soon add online contribution options to the web site to make it more convenient for you to support your theatre. Some of these may include special packages that feature thank you gifts and free admissions as a benefit. In the meantime, if you wish to "Help Save the Theatre" please deposit your donations at:
